Wrapped and mummified crocodile Late to Ptolemaic period

A Wrapped & Mummified Crocodile. A finely wrapped juvenile crocodile mummy wrapped into a slender long package. The linen is intact up to the snout and is decorated with a simple cross-wrapped pattern made from narrow red bandages (now brown) forming a row of six pointed stars running down the back of the mummy. It was originally acquired in Kom Ombo in 1901 during the Grand Tour of an English lady (label beneath old custom made box). The snout of the mummy protrudes slightly from the bandages, showing a row of small teeth. 3 x-ray plates accompany the mummy, showing the skull, arms and legs clearly. The style of wrapping gives this mummy an earlier date than most: Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, probably 26th Dynasty.
