Cartonnage Funerary Sandal Graeco-Roman Period 1st century AD
A cartonnage fuerary sandal for a mummy. Flat, with painted decoration over gesso. The edge has a painted red band and the stylized laces are shown down the center as one red and two blue bands. A pair of such sandals are often found wrapped on to the foot of finer Roman period mummies. Framed behind glass. Graeco-Roman Period 1st century AD. L 20,5 cm.
