Statuette Thoeris 26 Dynasti
Statuette Thoeris, faience, apple green core with a reddish-brown surface. The hippopotamus goddess Thoeris (Ta-weret) shown standing in green faiance with an unusual red ochre wash and traces of details in black. There is a square hole in the top of the head where a crown in a different material was originally attached. The style of the figure is almost a caricature of Thoeris and is as such reminiscent of the incised figures of this deity on New Kingdom cosmetic jars etc. Most faience figurines of Thoeris date to the Late Periode, but this example may well be earlier. Lower section repaired from fragments with some loss (filled with white) and arms missing. H. 8,8 cm Provenance: Larissa Bjuggren Stockholm 1960s.
