Inscribed faience fragment New Kingdom to TIP

Large inscribed faience fragment (M1169). Probably New Kingdom to TIP. Found on W side of great pit beneath Djosers Step Pyramid at Saqqara. Faience, bright blue with black inscription. Lower section remaining. H 7 cm W 11,5 cm Provenance: Collected by the Swedish Egyptologist and collector Larissa Bjuggren in the 1960s. The lower section of a large architectural fragment in bright blue glazed faience bearing the lower section of a vertical column of hieroglyphs on the front surface mentioning Thebes. It is uncertain what this object has been a part of, although it is likely an architectural fragment or a section of a faience coffin or box. Such large objects made of faience are unusual.
