Coffin Fragment Wig Lappet TIP 22-25th Period
Coffin Fragment: Wig Lappet (M1324). Third Intermediate Period, 22-25th Dynasty. Polychrome decoration over thick linen cartonnage. From an Australian collection, 2003. A coffin fragment showing part of the tripartite lappet wig and broad-collar in polychrome paint. The lappet itself is molded in three-dimensions from the thick linen cartonnage of which the coffin was made. The wig lappet is decorated with black details over green, perhaps indicating braids and the base is in yellow. The broad collar shows a wide row decorated like a checkerboard with rows of lotus-petals above and below. H 17,5 W 13,5 cm A very similar cartonnage coffin is that of Nespanetjerenpere in the Brooklyn Museum (36.1265) and is shown on the cover of their catalog “Ancient Egyptian Art in the Brooklyn Museum” 1989.
