Funerary cone for Merymose, viceroy of Nubia
A very interesting funerary cone fragment with almost the entire inscription intact on the front face, consisting of three registers of raised hieroglyphs for the Viceroy of Nubia Merimose. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Amenhotep III. From Thebes, Tomb 383 of Merimose at Qurnet Murai. Merymose was the Viceroy of Nubia under Amenhotep III and is the author of several important historical texts such as the Semneh Stela (See T. Säve-Söderberg, Ägypten und Nubien). L: 67, W: 67 mm. Fired Nile pottery with a red-ochre wash on text. Front surface repaired from two pieces; back end of cone missing. From an old UK coll. Acquired in 2001. The inscription reads: The honorable one before Osiris; The King´s Son of Kush [Viceroy of Nubia] Mery-mes. Norman de Garis Davies and M.F.
