Group of Ptolemaic pottery (5)

Group of Ptolemaic Pottery. A group of vessels, probably from the same tomb. All made of red Nile silt coarseware and dating to the Ptolemaic period. All show some surface erosion. a/ A tall jar, probably for beer, with a short simple foot. Intact. H18 cm. b/ a large deep bowl. c/ a large shallow bowl or plate. Repaired fractures. 210mm. d/ a smaller shallow bowl or plate with one fracture repaired and stain, perhaps from being used as a lamp or censer. 15,5 cm. e/ An even smaller shallow bowl or plate in with an unusual rim. Intact besides one small chip. 11 cm.. f/ A miniature shallow bowl or plate. Handmade. Intact. Note that these four plates fit into each other perfectly. Ptolemaic Period. Provenance: Reputedly from Tell el Farama. From an old English collection. Trotter, London 1992. Note: Similar pottery is exhibited in the Petrie Museum, UCL.
