A Thinite storage jar

A Thinite Storage Jar. A medium sized storage jar of ovoid shape with a short restricted neck, recurved rim and a flattened base made of marl fabric fired to reddish-beige. Handmade and not turned on a wheel. Pebble burnished surface with calcium adhering here and there. Thinite Period, 1st Dynasty. H 24 cm. Reputedly found in the Wadi Allaqi. Intact except for a chip to the rim. Very rare. Provenance:From an old UK collection. Gray’s Market, London 2001. (M1081) Cf a very similar jar, probably of the same manufacture, exhibited in the Uppsala University Museum, found at the Royal Tombs at Abydos by Petrie.
