A Middle Kingdom jar

A Middle Kingdom Jar. A large storage jar of ovoid shape with a short restricted neck, recurved rim and a flattened base. Marl fabric with a yellowish slip; signs of shaving below slip. Intact except for a rim chip. no weathering or salt damage. Middle Kingdom, 11th to 12th Dynasty. Traces of an old label. H 26 cm Provenance: Purchased by L. Bjuggren in the 1960s to 70s from the State antiquities dealer near the Luxor Temple. Acquired for present collection in 2001. This lot is part of a large private collection of Egyptian antiquities at auction at Lauritz.com Roskilde until 29-31 March 2016. and read .
