MANGBETU KNIFE, 1890-ties

Kongo, collected 1893-97, blade in iron, 39 cm. Provenance: Axel Svinhufvud, served in his youth as an officer in the Belgian army. He spent five years in Kongo and ended as the commander of a little station called Kabasidu. During the whole period he collected african artefacts and the following lot comes from his estate. His diary for the timeperiod was published in a book called ”I Kongostatens tjänst” Photo not inclueded
