He is depicted wearing the Field Marshal's uniform of the Blackheath Society of Golfers. The two golf clubs illustrated are said to be still in the possession of the Royal Blackheath Golf Club (1766)Royal Blackheath's Spring Medal, formerly known as the Knuckle Club Medal, dates back to 1789, when there was a group allied to the club, known as the Knuckle Club, who played separately from other members.
