Cognac 1811Louis de SalignacFrom the cognac house Salignac, probably founded in 1763. The vintage 1811 is regarded as one of the greatest of all times in most parts of Europe. The vintage journals say that it was a long hot summer as well as a dry and warm autumn. The extraordinary weather was said to be connected to an astronomical event that had dominated the year - the Flaugergues Comet. During September and October 1811, at the time grapes were harvested, the comet was clearly visible to the naked eye. It was taken as a sign of a supernatural blessing of the harvest, which therafter was known as "The Comet Vintage". This is a very rare and old cognac in very good condition for its age.1 bt
